Sculptor Georgi Todorov analyses the contrast between the notions of the visible and the invisible in his upcoming exhibition "Plastic Metamorphoses". He presents female wax figures with a metal skeleton, whose outer layer is melted during the exhibition, organizers of +359 Gallery, where the works are presented, said.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday, January 12. Due to the specificity of the project, it can be visited between 4:30 and 7 p.m. on January 13, 19 and 20, as well as on February 2, 3, 9 and 10. The exhibition is curated by Konsto Kassabov.
Classical techniques, as well as contemporary methods like 3D printing and digital design, 3D processing and materialization were used to create the works. The wax outer layer is classically modelled and is based on a handmade clay figure, which is digitised through specific technological methods. This digital 3D version of the figure is used to create the mould in which the wax is cast.
The metal skeleton, which varies in shape and concept on each level, is based on digital 3D models. These are cast in metal and the mould is then refined by hand using classical jewellery techniques and methods.
Georgi Todorov (b. 1990) graduated from the National Academy of Arts in 2016 with a Master's degree in sculpture under professor Emil Popov.
