The ceremony at the National Library in Sofia was attended by Vice President Iliana Iotova, the press secretariat of the head of State said Tuesday.
Every two years, the league holds literary competitions for a book published in Bulgarian during the period, alternating fiction and poetry. A total of 37 poetry collections written in Bulgarian in 22 countries have applied for the 2021 and 2022 diplomas and cash prizes.
At the event at the National Library, Dimitrina Jeliazkova-Etina was distinguished for The Owl's Dream, Marin Marinov for Eight Beats of Silence, and Lachezar Lozanov for The Skin of the World. The award was also given to the poet Prof. Ivan Barzakov for his activity through the "Professor Barzakov" association.
The League of Bulgarian Writers in the USA and the World was established in 2010, and is registered in Chicago. The league's members come from 12 countries on three continents, including Bulgaria.
The goal of the league is to promote Bulgarian literature, language, culture and national traditions in the United States and around the world. It organizes celebrations, meetings with Bulgarian writers and publishers, book fairs and literary readings in Bulgarian schools, cultural centres, and diplomatic missions.
