Renowned artists Zlatyu Boyadzhiev, Vladimir Dimitrov Maistora and Ivan Vukadinov are among the Bulgarian masters featured in the annual exhibition Winter Highlights at Sofia's Nuance Art Gallery from January 10 until February 5, the organizers say.
The exhibits include a 1954 Plovdiv landscape by Zlatyu Boyadzhiev, a landscape in watercolours by Konstantin Shtarkelov, and an Istanbul landscape by Vladimir Dimitrov Maistora dating from his sojourn in the city. Two paintings by Ivan Vukadinov and Ilia Peikov are in the selection. "Unlike Peikov, who, together with his brother, the well-known sculptor Asen Peikov, worked in Rome throughout their life, Vukadinov captivated the Italian audience with just a few exhibitions, and in 1975 the Vatican offered to buy one of his paintings for their collection of contemporary art," the organizers say. "What Vukadinov and Peikov share in common is that they are the only Bulgarians represented in the Vatican's collection of contemporary art."
Winter Highlights also presents works by Atanas Yaranov, Boris Denev, Vasil Stoilov, David Peretz, Dimitar Kazakov Neron, Nikola Tanev and Jaroslav Vesin, among others.
