A photo exhibition titled The Temple of the Pontic Mother of Gods: Cybele of Dionysopolis, opened in the Parliament building in Sofia Wednesday. The event commemorates the 15th anniversary of the discovery of the Temple in the Black Sea town of Balchik.

Dionysopolis is the ancient name of Balchik.

During excavation work in the construction of a hotel in 2007, workers came upon an ancient building and the discovery prompted the establishment of an archaeological team to explore the site, the director of the Balchik History Museum, Radostina Encheva, said during the opening of the exhibition. The researchers established that the temple was built in the 3rd century B.C. and was in use until the 4th century A.D.

All artefacts found at the site - statues of Cybele, household items and coins, among others - are now in the collection of the Balchik History Museum.
