site.btaDay 19: NAVAL RSV 421 Makes Good Speed to Cabo Verde Islands
The Bulgarian research vessel Sv.Sv Kiril i Metodii (NAVAL RSV 421) was maintaining good speed of little over 9 knots on its south-southwestward course to the Cabo Verde Islands in the evening hours of January 14, on the 19th day of its voyage to Livingston Island, navigator Hristo Hristov told BTA.
„We are on a course to the Cabo Verde Islands, with favourable wind and swell. Our speed is little over 9 knots,” he said, voicing hope that the vessel will cross the Atlantic and reach Mar del Plata in Argentina successfully.
The vessel has travelled 240 nautical miles off the Canaries and has another 530 nautical miles to the Cabo Verde Islands.
NAVAL RSV 421 is on a historic voyage to Livingston Island in the South Shetlands in support of the 31st Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition. The voyage is expected to last some 40 days one way.
BTA's Daily News editor Konstantin Karagyozov is the only member of the media who is travelling on board the ship to Livingston Island and back, and will cover the Bulgarian expedition on site throughout the stay in Antarctica.
