The Wild Christmas urban installation, which transformed the iconic Little 5 Corners (Malkite Pet Kiosheta) square in central Sofia into a wildlife habitat, will continue its educational mission with a recycling workshop before being moved to its new home in Sofia Zoo, the event summary reads.
On Wednesday, January 18, at 3 pm, the artificial greenery from the installation will be removed, and the Sofia Precious Plastic association will host a workshop focused on preparing, grinding and melting the material, and turning it into figurines of endangered animals that will continue their lives as toys, a gift for young and old participants of the event, the organizers said.
Participants in the workshop will be able to craft their own favourite wild animal and take it home as reminder of the human role in conserving biodiversity.
To help protect endangered species and biodiversity, in early 2022 Mastercard and DSK Bank launched the Wildlife Impact programme in Bulgaria. Through this programme, the two companies support the activities of the Conservation International organization , which takes care of the restoration and preservation of the habitats of wild animals, one of the organizers, the Imp-Act Agency, said on Facebook.
The Wild Christmas installation was set up over the building facade of the Sun Moon Small 5 Corners vegan restaurant and aims to raise awareness about biodiversity in nature protection. The installation consisted of covering the building with foe greenery, as well as big figures of a tiger, lemur, addax, cockatoo and an elephant on the balconies of each floor. The windows of nearby stores like Zoya, Boutique Mino 1923, SABAI and Irini also featured snow leopards, giraffes, lions and monkeys, the Imp-Act Agency said.
There were various events hosted at the square throughout the month of December.
The project was implemented by the Imp-Act Agency, Mastercard, DSK Bank, Mini Market, the teams of Botanic Lab, Light Factor, Manghee Atelier and a variety of actors, artists, sculptors, neighbours, businesses and residents of the neighbourhood, the Imp-Act Agency explained.
