site.btaDay 22: Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii Sets Course to Brazil
On day 22 of its voyage to Antarctica (January 17) the Bulgarian military research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (NAVAL RSV 421) keeps a course to the easternmost part of South America - the coast of Brazil near Recife.
The swell and wind are still favourable. The swell is 2 points Douglas, while the wind is light - about 2-3 meters per second.
Lieutenant Commander Radko Muevski, Executive Officer of Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii, told BTA that the distance to the Brazilian coast is expected to be covered in six days, maintaining the current average speed of about 9.5 knots. He added that the NAVAL RSV 421 will soon leave the waters of the southwesterly stream along which it is sailing south of Cape Verde, entering an area with a southeasterly stream that will affect the ship's course.
The ship is sailing to the second stopover on its voyage to Livingston Island - Mar del Plata in Argentina, where it is expected to arrive in early February.
BTA's Daily News editor Konstantin Karagyozov is the only member of the media who is travelling on board the ship to Livingston Island and back, and will cover the Bulgarian expedition on site throughout the stay in Antarctica.
