site.btaBTA Opens National Press Club in Kardzhali

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) opened a National Press Club on Wednesday in Kardzhali. The ceremony was opened by BTA Director general Kiril Valchev, and was attended by Regional Governor Daniel Delchev, Municipal Council Chair Yusein Ahmed, as well as state and local authorities, heads of various institutions, journalists, and guests.

The press club is the first of the last group of national press clubs that will be opened in 2023 in the regional cities of Bulgaria. Currently, BTA had no national press clubs only in Kardzhali, Smolyan, Razgrad, Pernik and Montana.

BTA has been in Kardzhali for almost half a century, General Director Kiril Valchev noted. "It is quite logical that Kardzhali, the city of Arda, which is the largest administrative, industrial, commercial and cultural centre of the Eastern Rhodopes, should have BTA media presence," Valchev said.

Valchev noted that the press club will be a place to discuss different points of view in a peaceful manner, in today's uneasy national and international situation, as are all other national press clubs of BTA. 

BTA's press club in Kardzhali, will be not only a place for press conferences, but also for events, the first of which will be a conference dedicated to the Cohesion Funds under the European Union, hosted by BTA jointly with the European Commission. 

"The meaning of BTA's work is not only to inform about the events of the day, but actually to leave testimonies about the times. With this press club, people in Kardzhali will leave more such testimonies," commented Valchev.

Valchev noted that in the last two years, BTA has doubled its press clubs. "We already have press clubs in 22 regional cities. By the end of this year, I hope to have press clubs in all regional cities", he commented and added that press clubs will be opened in all 15 cities with a population of over 25,000 people. "We have four national press clubs outside Bulgaria, in Skopje, Bucharest, Taraklia and Bosilegrad," said the BTA General Director of BTA.
