World-renowned actor John Malkovich will perform in Bulgaria on three consecutive nights, February 16, 17 and, 18, on the stage of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre. Tickets will be available from noon on January 25, at the theatre's ticket office and website, as well as online, said the Ivan Vazov National Theatre.
Malkovich will star alongside award-winning Lithuanian actress Ingeborga Dapkunaite in Timofey Kulyabin's production of In the Solitude of Cotton Fields.
In the Solitude of Cotton Fields is a two-character play, written by the French dramatist and writer Bernard-Marie Koltes in 1985. The Guardian summarizes the play as a shadowy, illicit confrontation between two people, the Dealer and the Client, the first has something to sell, and the second's needs are defined by what the other has to offer. What starts as a negotiation for power, advantage and territory gradually turns into a revelation of mutual solitude and fear before leading to a climax of naked antagonism.
The performance will be in English, with Bulgarian subtitles will be broadcast on special monitors.
The first thing that Malkovich did was to motivate the theatre cast and also to create a new structure, writes Telegraph. Alexander Morfov became the main director of the production, and will work with Yavor Gardev and Diana Dobreva. Writer Zahari Karabashliev was also added to the new composition, said by National Theatre Vasil Vassilev on the air of Bulgarian National Radio.
