Over 70 new high-tech companies have made investments in Bulgaria in 2021, said experts during a discussion titled “The Software Industry - An Engine for Economic Growth”, the Innovation and Growth Ministry said in a press release here on Monday. The event was organized by the Bulgarian Association of Software Companies and was attended by Innovation and Growth Minister Daniel Lorer.
Nearly 50,000 people are employed in the software sector in Bulgaria and some 30,000 more specialists will be needed there in the years to come, as the industry grows steadily, adding value to the country’s economy, the Ministry reported.
Lorer stressed that Bulgaria will make various forms of investments in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector. According to him, Bulgaria’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan will provide funding of over 400 million leva to the digital economy industry – some 146 million leva will go for equity investments, and some 260 million leva will be allocated for technological modernization.
An analysis of the software industry shows that sales revenues will exceed 10 billion leva, as the sector is one of the heavily export-oriented industries in Bulgaria.
