Sofia Airport has been certified for direct flights to the United States, the airport said in a press release Wednesday. The certification comes after a team from the Security Operations of the US Transportation Security Administration inspected Sofia Airport in mid-October 2021.

The team assessed the application of standards and recommended practices according to international requirements, and found that the aviation security measures applied at Bulgaria's largest airport are effective.
