Bulgarian residents logged 470,200 trips abroad in January 2022, 54.8 per cent up from the number for January 2021, the National Statistical Institute reported on Monday. The arrivals of visitors from abroad to Bulgaria in January 2021 numbered 445,000, 84.1 per cent up, year on year. At 218,300, transits accounted for 49.0 per cent of all visits by foreigners to this country.

The 170,100 visits by ЕU citizens represented 38.2 per cent of the total number of foreigners’ visits to Bulgaria in
January 2022, and most of them originated from Romania (46.7 per cent), Greece (15.8 per cent), and Germany (9.3 per cent).

Visits by foreigners from European countries outside the EU totaled 232,100, or 52.2 per cent of all
visits to Bulgaria. The largest number of such visits, 115,400 or 49.7 per cent, originated from Turkey.

Broken down by purpose, 56.0 per cent of the visits in January 2022 were for other purposes, 31.0 per cent for a holiday and recreation purpose, and 13.0 per cent for professional purpose.
