A total of 114 international charter aircraft movements were logged by Sofia Airport in February, the airport press centre said. Interest in exotic destinations was high with close to 5,000 passengers flying charter to the Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Tanzania, Kenya, the Maldives, Seychelles.
Similarly to January, the total number of passengers in February was far below the registered volume of pre-COVID 2019. The Sofia Airport passengers in February 2022 were 315,121, a drop of 37 per cent compared to the same month of 2019. Passengers on international flights were 39 per cent fewer, passengers on domestic flights were 34 per cent fewer.
In February, the number of aircraft movements was 3,141, down by 26 per cent compared to 2019.
The pandemic continues to have an impact on air traffic, Sofia Airport said. Their analysis also pointed out the war in Ukraine as a negative influence.
