Revenues from nights spent in accommodation establishments in January 2022 reached 48.5 million leva, increasing by 86.6 per cent compared to the same month last year. Revenues from Bulgarian citizens were 26.3 million leva, and from foreign citizens - 22.2 million leva, the National Statistical Institute said.

The total occupancy of beds in accommodation establishments in January 2022 was 22.3 per cent, increasing by 6.4 percentage points compared to January 2021. The highest occupancy of beds was in accommodation establishments with 4 and 5 stars - 31.6 per cent, followed by accommodation establishments with 3 stars - 20.2 per cent, and with 1 and 2 stars - 12.6 per cent.

In January 2022, during the ongoing epidemic situation, there were 1,702 sites with over 10 beds in the country - hotels, motels, campsites, chalets and other places for short-term accommodation. The number of rooms was them is 50.8 thousand, and the number of beds - 102.8 thousand. Compared to January 2021, the total number of accommodation establishments operating during the period increased by 4.2 per cent, and the number of beds - by 7.9 per cent.

The total number of overnight stays in all accommodation establishments registered in January 2022 was 702.0 thousand, or 51.4 per cent more than in the same month of the previous year. Bulgarian citizens spent there a total of 435.2 thousand nights, while foreigners - 266.8 thousand. In January 2022, 77.9 per cent of the total number of nights spent by foreigners and 43.2 per cent of overnight stays by Bulgarians were spent in 4 and 5 star hotels.

The number of overnight stays in accommodation establishments in January 2022 increased by 33.4 per cent compared to the same month in 2021 and reached 291.8 thousand. The Bulgarian citizens who spent the night in the accommodation establishments in January 2022 were 213.0 thousand and have stayed an average of 2 nights. A total of 78.8 thousand foreigners spent an average of 3.4 nights, 76.8 per cent of which at 4 and 5 star hotels.
