Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov said the Varna thermal power plant (TPP) owes Bulgargaz 37.5 million leva and the natural gas supplier is seeking an attachment of its bank accounts. Nikolov was replying in writing to a question by MP Ivaylo Mirchev of Democratic Bulgaria, the party's press office said on Friday.
On March 2, Mirchev asked the Energy Minister about the plant's outstanding payments to Bulgargaz, what led to their accumulation and why the State had not claimed them. "The entire outstanding amount of 37.5 million leva is owed for natural gas supplied or reserved as well as for damages, and arose in just two months, January and February of 2022," the press release said, quoting Nikolov.
On February 1, Bulgargaz suspended gas supplies to Varna TPP and asked it to pay in full by March 10.
"The company will take all the remedies provided for by the law to recover the receivables, including attachment of the debtor's bank accounts, action and enforcement proceedings with the respective precautionary measures," the Energy Minister said as quoted by Democratic Bulgaria.
Movement for Rights and Freedoms founder Ahmed Dogan is the majority owner of Varna TPP.
