It was the Bulgarian companies who came up with the initiative of force majeure, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy and Industry Minister Korneliya Ninova said in a bTV interview, commenting on her proposal that force majeure be declared for all sectors, effective retroactively from February 24 to March 31, in the context of the war in Ukraine.

The aim of declaring force majeure is to shield the companies from bankruptcy, she said.

In Ninova’s words, the proposal of force majeure was coordinated with the Foreign Ministry, Justice Ministry, Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Health Ministry, Environment and Waters Ministry. A letter has also been sent to the Innovation and Growth Ministry, but no reply has been received yet.

Commenting on Innovation and Growth Minister Daniel Lorer’s words that the proposal of force majeure has not been discussed at a coalition council, Ninova argued that the idea has been discussed with ministers, two meetings ago.

Early parliamentary elections would be harmful for Bulgaria, she said, adding that security, stability, and predictability are needed right now.

Asked to evaluate Russian president Vladimir Putin, Ninova refused to do so, but stressed that what is happening in Ukraine is war, and an aggression which the Bulgarian Socialist Party condemns.
