The share of the energy produced by baseload capacities in Bulgaria's energy balance increased by 32.34 per cent and stood at 11,253,277 MWh for the period January 1, 2022 - March 20, 2022 compared to January 1, 2021 - March 20, 2021, according to the latest operational data of the Electricity System Operator (ESO) published on the operator's website. 

The data also show that electricity production in Bulgaria increased by 22.61 per cent over the same period. Between January 1, 2022 and March 20, 2022, electricity production stood at 13,058,587 MWh, while for the same period last year it was 10,650,725 MWh.

Electricity consumption in the country decreased by 4.65 per cent over the reporting period. Between January 1, 2022 and March 20, 2022, 10,119,813 MWh of electricity were consumed, while for the same period in 2021 the figure was 9,669,820 MWh.

An increase in the share of renewable energy sources in the transmission network by 17.73 per cent, as well as in the distribution network, by 18.70 per cent, is reported in the period under review. 

The share of electricity from hydropower plants dropped by 32.31 per cent in the reporting period, compared to the like period in 2021.
