site.btaBulgarians' Trips Abroad Up 93.9% in February 2022, Y/Y Foreigners' Arrivals Up 70.1%

Bulgarian residents logged 417,500 trips abroad in February 2022, 93.9 per cent up from the number for February 2021, the National Statistical Institute reported on Tuesday. The arrivals of visitors from abroad to Bulgaria in February 2021 numbered 409,800, 70.1 per cent up, year on year. At 160,700, transits accounted for 39.0 per cent of all visits by foreigners to this country.

The 155,800 visits by EU citizens represented 38 per cent of the total number of foreigners' visits to Bulgaria in February 2022, and most of them originated from Romania (38 per cent), Greece (28.4 per cent), and Germany (6.9 per cent).

Visits by foreigners from European countries outside the EU totaled 219,400, or 53.5 per cent of all visits to Bulgaria. The largest number of such visits, 107,800 or 49.2 per cent, originated from Turkey.

Broken down by purpose, 48.0 per cent of the visits in February 2022 were for other purposes, 39.1 per cent for a holiday and recreation purpose, and 12.6 per cent for professional purpose.
