site.btaGross External Debt Exceeds EUR 41.6 Bln at End-January
At the end of January 2022, Bulgaria's gross external debt was more than 41.6 billion euro (55.5 per cent of GDP), the Bulgarian National Bank said here on Wednesday. The debt increased by nearly 2.8 billion euro (7.2 per cent), year-on-year.
At the end of January 2022, short-term liabilities amounted to 6.7 billion euro (16.1 per cent of the total debt, 8.9 per cent of GDP), increasing by 945.1 million euro (16.4 per cent) compared to January 2021.
Long-term liabilities amounted to almost 35 billion euro (83.9 per cent of the total debt, 46.6 per cent of GDP), marking an increase of 1.8 billion euro (5.6 per cent), year-on-year.
As at end-January 2022, 26.6 billion euro (63.9 per cent) of the gross external liabilities have a remaining maturity of over a year. A total of 82 per cent of the gross external liabilities were denominated in euro compared to 84.4 per cent at end-January 2021.
At the end of January 2022, the General government's gross external debt totalled more than 8.2 billion euro (10.9 per cent of GDP), year-on-year. Compared to the end of 2021, it increased by 219.5 million euro (2.7 per cent).
The external liabilities of the central bank (more than 1.9 billion euro, 2.6 per cent of GDP) increased by nearly 1.1 billion euro (132.6 per cent) compared to January 2021.
As at end-January 2022, the external liabilities of other Monetary Financial Institutions amounted nearly 4.9 billion euro (6.5 per cent of GDP), increasing by 781 million euro (19 per cent), year-on-year.
