Fifty tonnes of meat without documents of origin and without health and identification marks were found in a slaughterhouse near the town of Levski during a surprise inspection of the Regional Directorate for Food Safety - Pleven and the Interior Ministry, said on Monday from the Regional Directorate of Pleven.

Animals of unknown origin were found in the slaughterhouse near the town of Levski. The animals were without ear tags and no veterinarian was present when accepting animals and during the slaughter.

Meat and by-products were stored on site in violation of state requirements. An inspection of the scene was performed. Various documents have been seized as material evidence. The site was sealed by employees of the Regional Directorate for Food Safety - Pleven, and a ban on sale was issued. An order for the destruction of the meat of unknown origin is pending.

Pre-trial proceedings on the case are ongoing.
