An intelligent platform for forecasting and management of pandemics has been developed under the project STAMINA, financed by the EU funding programme for research and innovation Horizon 2020, the Regional Information Centre in Varna told BTA. The project has a total budget of 11,020,801 euro and is implemented by 39 partners from 12 countries. The project coordinator is Exus Software Monoprosopi Etairia Periorismenis Evthinis - Greece.
The project includes the development of real-time web and social analyses to detect potential disease outbreaks, their predictive modelling during a pandemic, and early warning systems. The roles of key players and protective and diagnostic devices for front-line screening are defined.
The aim is to enable national institutions and front-line professionals to anticipate pandemic threats and risks and to plan their efforts to increase health security at regional, national, and European levels. Part of STAMINA is also a common operational snapshot - a basic interface that allows coordination inside and outside the European Union.
With a wide range of tools, STAMINA makes predictable visual analyses in action. Simulating the flow of patients facilitates the management of the capacity of beds in intensive care units. The tool models the possibilities for reconfiguration and maintenance of isolation wards for infected patients. Its purpose is to help manage the bed capacity in hospitals during peaks of patients with infectious diseases and to plan emergency operations during pandemic crises.
A simulation can also predict the spread of COVID-19 in a certain locality. The tool takes into account people's immunity and the preventive measures taken, as well as their behavior based on demographic characteristics. The platform forecasts hospitalization and death rates. The availability and scarcity of resources in one or more institutions can also be managed for optimal allocation.
The implementation of STAMINA will continue until August 31, 2022.
