Inflation in Bulgaria in March was 2.2% month-on-month, the National Statistical Institute said Tuesday. It adds up to an inflation of 5.2% since the start of 2022 and 12.4% year-on-year.

The average annual inflation for the period from April 2021 to March 2022 (compared to the same time a year earlier) is 6%.

The price increase in March was most significant in the transport sector.

Prices in March 2022 increased from February 2022 as follows, by consumer groups:

  • Transport 7.9%;
  • Foods and non-alcoholic beverages 3.3%;
  • Restaurants and hotels 2.8%;
  • Miscellaneous goods and services 1.1%;
  • Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels 1%;
  • Furniture, household equipment and routine home maintenance 0.9%;
  • Education 0.7%;
  • Communications 0.6%;
  • Health 0.3%;
  • Alcoholic beverages and tobacco 0.1%.

Two groups show a decrease of prices: recreation and culture (0.6%) and clothing and footwear (0.5%).
