site.btaPM Petkov, Business Representatives Discuss High Fuel Prices

Prime Minister Kiril Petkov conferred here on Tuesday with representatives of the Bulgarian Petroleum and Gas Association and fuel retailers to discuss the perspectives, tendencies and possibilities to regulate fuel prices. Dialogue must continue and there should be constructive joint actions, said Petkov.

"The market is free, but this is a global crisis, which we must go through together," the Prime Minister said, noting that despite being high, fuel prices in Bulgaria are among the lowest in Europe.

Petkov said that the Government is constantly monitoring the fuel prices on both the global markets and at petrol stations.

Commenting the planned protests by truck and bus companies on April 27, Petkov said that Transport Minister Nikolay Sabev is in dialogue with the sector. He added that many European leaders oppose the idea to temporarily reduce the excise duty on fuels to reduce prices, because that would reflect on their budgets.
