site.btaAccidents in Workplace Increase by 119 to 2,020 Last Year
A total of 2,588 occupational incidents were reported to the National Social Security Institute (NSSI) in 2021. These included 2,392 occupational accidents, 2,020 of which occurred in the workplace and the remaining 372 happened on the way to or from work. Fatal occupational accidents numbered 68. Occupational accidents caused the loss of 173,947 workdays.
The data is contained in the first NSSI information bulletin for 2022.
Accidents in the workplace in 2021 increased by 119 compared with 2020, and those on the way to or from work decreased by 36. Fatal occupational accidents dropped by 21. Work-related accidents decreased in 34 economic sectors, increased in 45 sectors, and remained just as many in 4 sectors.
The largest increases in occupational accidents were observed in "education" (+27), followed by "building of general and special purpose machines and equipment" (+17) and "manufacture of rubber and plastic products" (+15).
