GERB leader Boyko Borissov criticized the government for the cut off gas supplies from Gazprom for Bulgaria at a news briefing on Sunday. According to the opposition leader, the government is concealing the fact that the state will again buy Russian gas but through middlemen which will increase significantly its price.
Borissov said that the incumbent are serving Russian President Vladimir Putin at the expense of the Bulgarian consumer. He referred to media reports according to which MET Energy is a front for Gazprom and has an agreement with the Russian monopolist to transit its natural gas.
Borissov said that under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Bulgaria's strategic infrastructure for energy security has to be removed from a no-privatization list.
Borissov also criticized the government for increasing the sovereign debt. From its first day a new government will have to repay billions and it will be impossible to implement any policies, said Borissov.
MPs from GERB-UDF and former energy ministers Delyan Dobrev and Temenouzhka Petkova also said that Bulgaria will once again buy Russian gas but at a higher price.
