The prosecution service has charged a Turkish citizen identified as A.A. (43) for failing to declare to the customs authorities foreign currency carried across the border on May 2. The incident occurred at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the Bulgarian-Turkish border, the prosecution service said on Tuesday.

A.A. arrived at the border crossing in a truck. During the inspection, the customs officers found undeclared funds to the amount of 234,950 euro equivalent to about 459,522 leva. The currency was hidden in the cavities of two of the beams for securing the cargo in the cargo hold. He was detained for up to 72 hours and an investigation is currently underway under the supervision of the prosecution service.
