site.btaEnergy Ministry, AES Bulgaria Sign MoU

The Energy Ministry and AES Bulgaria signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the Ministry reported here on Wednesday. The document was signed by Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov and AES Bulgaria Managing Director Ivan Tzankov. 

According to the MoU, AES Bulgaria commits itself to assist Bulgaria in its efforts aimed towards decarbonization of its energy sector and achieving the goals of the European Green Deal for 2030 and 2050. Knowledge and experience will be provided about bringing on the market innovative technologies that will help with the smooth transition to an environmentally friendly energy production and storage, including from renewable energy sources. 

AES Bulgaria is to research the options for developing a combination of a 100 MW solar energy project and a battery energy storage system (BESS), as well as a BESS project for storing 80 MWh near Sofia, which will contribute to the electricity grid's security.
