The production of electricity from hydropower plants decreased by 33.77% for the period January 1 - May 8, 2022 compared to the same period last year. This is shown by the data from the latest operational report on the energy balance in the country of the Electricity System Operator (ESO), published on Tuesday on the operator's website.
Electricity production in Bulgaria increased by 17.40% over the period. From the beginning of the year to May 8, 19,867,741 megawatt-hours of electricity were produced, and for the same period last year that number was 16,922,451 megawatt-hours.
Electricity consumption in the country has increased by 1.79% for the period January 1, 2022 - May 8, 2022 compared to this period a year earlier, according to ESO data. From the beginning of the year to May 8, 15,087,334 megawatt hours of electricity were consumed, while for the same period in 2021 the consumption was 14,822,329 megawatt hours.
The data show that for the compared period the balance (exports-imports) increased by 127.63%. ESO statistics show that this indicator has been gradually declining since the end of January this year.
