Revenues from nights spent at Bulgarian accommodation establishments reached 52 million leva in March 2022, which is an increase by 111.3% compared to March 2021, the National Statistical Institute reported. Bulgarians generated 29.6 million leva of these revenues and foreigners, 22.4 million leva.
In March 2022, the total occupancy of beds in accommodation establishments was 25.1%, up by 10.5 percentage points year-on-year.
In March 2022, during the ongoing epidemic situation, there were 1,717 open accommodation establishments with over 10 beds (hotels, motels, campsites, chalets and other places for short-term accommodation), with the number of beds increasing by 5.4 per cent from March 2021.
The total number of overnight stays in all accommodation establishments registered in March 2022 was 796,600, or 81.2% more than in the same month of 2021. Bulgarian citizens spent there a total of 515,100 nights and foreigners, 281,500 nights.
The number of guests at accommodation establishments increased by 70.1% year-on-year to reach 343,600 in March 2022. The Bulgarian guests numbered 249,300 and stayed for 2.1 nights on average. Foreign guests totalled 94,300 and stayed for 3 night on average, 71.4% of them choosing 4- and 5-star hotels.
