site.btaVP Iotova: Government's Anti-Crisis Proposals Are Not Anti-Inflationary
The anti-crisis measures proposed by the government coalition are not anti-inflationary, Vice President Iliana Iotova told reporters after a graduation ceremony at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) on Wednesday.
Iotova said the government's measures were not intended to fight inflation but to ease the situation of individuals and businesses. Those measures are by no means curbing inflation because "inflation is curbed by increasing production, by promoting industry, by boosting the economy, by injecting new investments," she said.
"Seeing the proposals, I still do not know what their effect on consumers will be. (…) I do not know where those BGN 2 billion will come from, whether the money will be planned in the budget revision [in the summer], or it will come from the mounting loans - we have not had an answer from the Prime Minister," said Iotova. She also asked if the measures would be sustainable, if businesses can rely on them and if they can be sure that the measures will continue in the coming months.
