site.btaHouseholds' Deposits Up by 6.5%, Loans by 14.2% in April, Y/Y

At the end of April 2022, deposits of the non-government sector amounted to BGN 105.1 billion (71.6% of GDP), increasing annually by 10.1%, the Bulgarian central bank said Wednesday. Deposits of households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) were BGN 67.6 billion (46.1% of GDP), up by 6.5% from April 2021.  

Deposits of financial corporations increased by 32.1% year-on-year to reach just over BGN 4 billion (2.7% of GDP) at the end of April 2022.

Deposits of non-financial corporations totalled BGN 33.5 billion (22.8% of GDP), up by 15.4% from April 2021.

At the end of April 2022, claims on loans to the non-government sector amounted to BGN 74 billion (50.5% of GDP), compared to BGN 73.4 billion (50% of GDP) at the end of March 2022. They increased by 10.7% year-on-year.

Loans to households and NPISHs totalled BGN 30.1 billion (20.5% of GDP), up by 14.2% from April 2021.  Loans for house purchases amounted to BGN 14.6 billion and increased by 18.1% year-on-year. Consumer loans amounted to BGN 13.9 billion, growing by 11.9% from a year earlier.

Loans to employers and self-employed rose by 3.1% year-on-year.

Loans to non-financial corporations went up by 7.7% year-on-year to reach BGN 38.8 billion (26.4% of GDP) in April 2022.

Loans to financial corporations amounted to BGN 5.1 billion (3.5% of GDP), which is an increase by 13.6% from April 2021.
