site.btaBulgaria Needs Budget Revision Adopted by Parliament by End of June – Head of PM’s Political Cabinet

A budget revision needs to be adopted by Parliament by the end of June, the head of the Prime Minister’s political cabinet, Lena Borislavova, said after a meeting of the government coalition partners late on Thursday. She said that the revision is important because it will make sure the anti-inflationary measures approved by the government, “start to be implemented and reach people”.

The coalition partners discussed relations with North Macedonia, the budget revision and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Borislavova said that they discussed the time frame for the adoption of the budget revision and  are determined to see it discussed on principle by the parliamentary budget committee in the week between June 6 and 10.

As for the National Recovery Plan, Parliament has “very hard work to do” and adopt legislative changes that will make it possible to use the available funding on time, said Borislavova. She added that more than 20 revisions of laws “for much-delayed reforms” are waiting to be adopted, mentioning as an example revisions concerning the energy sector.

Asked to comment a controversial bill on what is large referred to as “Bulgarian Magnitsky Act”, that was leaked to the press earlier in the week, causing an outrage among the coalition partners and the opposition alike for violating the Constitution and the EU acquis, Borislavova said that she had not seen the document that appeared in the news media and neither have the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. “So, I guess, the Justice Ministry have a lot more work to do before we see a final text to be offered for an expert and political debate by the coalition partners”.
