site.btaIndex of Wholesale Food Prices Declines for Third Week, Albeit Slightly

The index of wholesale food prices went down by 0.28% to 2.174 points this past week, which is the first decrease of the index since October 2021 when it averaged 1.630 points, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said on Sunday. 

A year ago the index ranged around 1.650 points.

The index's baseline of 1 point was established in 2005. 

The wholesale price of hothouse tomatoes decreased by 7.9% to BGN 3.61/kg. Hothouse cucumbers depreciated by 7.1% to BGN 2.48/kg. Potatoes went up by 2.0% and traded at BGN 1.03/kg. Carrots went up by 4.7% and traded wholesale at BGN 1.11/kg. Cabbage went down by 6.4% and sold at BGN 1.03/kg. Lettuce depreciated by 2.4% to 0.81 leva apiece.

Apples depreciated by BGN 0.01 to BGN 1.38/kg. Lemons went up by 10.3% to BGN 2.14/kg. Strawberries went down by nearly 20% and sold at BGN 4.42/kg. 

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 0.73% to BGN 9.66/kg. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese went up by 0.5% and sold at BGN 15.22/kg. Sunflower oil gained 1.0% and traded at BGN 5.24/litre. Butter from cow's milk sold at BGN 2.65 per 125-gram pack, rising by 1.9%. 

Chicken went down by 1.0% and traded at 5.75 leva/kg. Sugar increased by 0.5% to BGN 2.12/kg. Grade 500 flour gained 5.9% and traded at BGN 1.44/kg. Rice went down by 1.1% to BGN 2.64/kg. Eggs were available at 0.28 leva apiece.
