The Executive Director of the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (EAFA), Hristo Panayotov, participated in a session of the Compliance Committee of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) to clarify the process of implementing GFCM measures, as well as in working groups on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and VMS - satellite tracking systems, EAFA said.
The meetings took place in Larnaca, Cyprus, and were attended by representatives of the GFCM Secretariat, the European Commission, the GFCM Contracting Parties and other regional fisheries management organizations.
The meetings focused on progress in combating IUU fishing in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, as well as the establishment of a Regional Catch Documentation Scheme (CDS) to identify the origins of turbot catches in the Black Sea and support implementation. of the multiannual management plan for turbot fishery.
The Compliance Committee presented progress in the implementation of GFCM decisions and the submission of data and information for the calendar year 2021. Bulgaria has fulfilled 100% of its reporting obligations and has no shortcomings in the past year. The ongoing improvement in the management of the information provided by the contracting parties was discussed.
