In April 2022, industrial producer prices rose by 1.3% in the EU and by 1.2% in the euro area, compared with March 2022, according to estimates from Eurostat published on Thursday. In March 2022, prices increased by 5.4% in the EU and by 5.3% in the euro area.
Bulgaria registered the third largest increase in the EU in April (+4.1%), compared to March, after Slovakia (+9.3%) and Luxembourg (+6.0%). Bulgaria's March increase was even larger at 4.3%.
Monthly comparison
In the EU, prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 2.7%. The energy sector saw the only decrease in prices, by 1.1%.
In the euro area, prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 2.6%. Prices decreased by 1.2% in the energy sector.
The highest monthly decreases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Ireland (-16.4%), Romania (-3.2%), Portugal (-2.2%) and Italy (-0.3%). The highest increases were observed in Slovakia (+9.3%), Luxembourg (+6.0%) and Bulgaria (+4,1%).
Annual comparison
In April 2022, compared with April 2021, industrial producer prices increased by 37.0% in the EU and by 37.2% in the euro area.
In the EU, prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 16.1% in April 2022, compared with April 2021. Industrial producer prices in the energy sector increased by 97.2%.
In the euro area, prices in total industry excluding energy increased by 15.6% in April 2022, compared with April 2021. Industrial producer prices in the energy sector increased by 99.2%.
The industrial producer prices increased in all Member States, with the highest yearly increases being registered in Denmark and Ireland (both +62.3%), Romania (+60.4%) and Belgium (+52.7%). Bulgaria comes next with 49.7%.
