site.btaPM Petkov Outlines Ambitious Scenario for Economic Growth during Meeting with World Bank Representatives

Speaking at a meeting with World Bank representatives in Sofia on Monday, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov outlined an ambitious scenario for economic growth, the government's information service said.

The discussion was on the topic of reducing inequalities by means of strategies to improve healthcare, social services and education.

Petkov talked about the serious potential in partnership with the World Bank, noting that the financial institution can be useful to Bulgaria not only with high-quality consultancy work but also in project implementation.

The participants in the meeting discussed in detail ways how Bulgaria could double and keep up the high growth pace in the next 15 years so as to reach the average income levels in Europe. This requires deep structural reforms which strengthen the growth potential, increasing the integration of the vulnerable groups and transition to green and digital economy.

Four priority areas of cooperation were identified, expected to unlock the country's potential for economic growth: improving the work of the institutions of good governance; increasing work productivity and fitness for work by all; strengthening public spending to improve provision of services and increasing the sustainability of the growth model, the press release says.
