The summer season opened on Saturday in the Golden Sands resort on the Black Sea coast. The same day, the resort hosted a conference on the occasion of its 65th anniversary. The Ministers of Tourism and of Foreign Affairs, Hristo Prodanov and Teodora Genchovska, attended the event.
Prodanov said that the tourism sector is expecting between 5.5 and 6 million tourists to visit Bulgaria during the summer of 2022. He added that his expectations are that the number of visitors from Poland, the United Kingdom, Hungary and Serbia will increase, and there will be no outflow of Bulgarians from their Black Sea coast.
Prodanov added that the message for this season is that Bulgaria is a safe and peaceful destination. According to him, there is need for more promotion of the health tourism in the country.
Hoteliers Union Golden Sands Chairman Georgi Shterev said that the resort's facilities, which have agreed to work under the new accommodation programme for Ukrainians, are very few. He envisages staff deficit in the tourism sector for the next 3 to 5 years.
The Executive Director of the private joint stock company Golden Sands, Kiril Kirilov, said that during the past years the resort's infrastructure has been renovated and the aim is to fully renovate the resort in the next 3 years. Golden Sands has 90 hotels with more than 130,000 beds.
