Over 670,000 Bulgarians will have the opportunity to improve their digital skills with EU resources, said Adriana Sukova, Deputy Director General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion. In an interview for BTA, she explained that in the 2021-2027 programming period, the focus will be on digital literacy, increase of qualification and re-qualification of employees, and lifelong learning.
In her words, the need to act is obvious given that the share of inactive young people in Bulgaria is 17.6%, quite below the EU-average of 13.1%.
More than 170,000 Bulgarians can rely on training funded under Operational Programme (OP) Human Resources Development (2021-2027) to improve their chances of finding better jobs. A total of EUR 290 million under OP Science and Education for Smart Growth (2021-2027) will go towards improving professional training and qualification in Bulgaria.
Sukova told BTA that Bulgarians can also rely on EU funds for measures to: keep older persons on the labour market longer; create jobs in sectors with high value added and transition to low-carbon economy; improve the quality of life of people caring for children or a dependent family member at home; employ people with disabilities; promote the work of medical professionals in small municipalities.
