The wholesale food market index lost 1.93 per cent, reaching 2.071 points, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets reported. The base level of the index was set in 2005 at 1.000 point. The index has sustained its downward trend for six weeks after a steady rise from 1.630 points in since October 2021.
The average wholesale price of greenhouse-grown tomatoes dropped by 20.8 per cent to 2.70 leva per kilogramme, and the price of greenhouse-grown cucumbers by 18.4 per cent to 1.60 lv/kg. The average wholesale price of potatoes lost 2.7 per cent to 1.07 lv/kg. Carrots went down by 4.3 per cent to 0.89 lv/kg. Cabbage decreased by 4.3 per cent to 0.89 lv/kg. The price of lettuce dropped by 0.04 lv to 0.73 lv per piece.
In the week under review, the average wholesale price of apples lost by 11 per cent to 1.43 lv/kg. Lemons added 5.7 per cent to 2.57 lv/kg. Strawberries went up by 4.3 per cent to 3.62 lv/kg, while cherries slumped by 32 per cent to 2.62 lv/kg after losing another 21 per cent a week ago.
The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk went up by 0.5 per cent to 9.83 lv/kg. Yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type rose by 1.3 per cent to 15.24 lv/kg. Sunflower oil traded at 5.03 leva per litre. A 125 g pack of butter from cow's milk at 2.70 lv. Chicken added 2.2 per cent to 5.67 lv/kg. The average wholesale price of sugar was 2.19 lv/kg. Type 500 flour went up by 1.4 per cent to 1.47 lv/kg. Rice went up by 3 per cent to 2.74 lv/kg. The price of eggs remained unchanged at 0.27 lv/piece.
