Custom inspectors have intercepted 5,000 boxes containing a total of 100,000 cigarettes from various brands, in an attempt to be illegally exported via the Danube Bridge between Vidin in Bulgaria and Calafat in Romania, the Customs Agency said on Thursday.

The contraband cigarettes had valid Bulgarian excise duty stamps and were found in a truck, which on paper was carrying cosmetics, empty pallets and construction materials to Britain. The haul was found on June 22.

All cigarettes have been impounded. The driver was issued a statement on an administrative violation.
