site.btaDeputy PM Ninova, Officials Meet with Representatives of Consumer Protection NGOs
Outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Economy and Industry Minister Korneliya Ninova, Deputy Minister Dimitar Margaritov and Commission for Consumer Protection Chair Ivan Frenkev met here on Monday with representatives of non-governmental organizations active in consumer protection, Ninova's Ministry said in a press release.
At the meeting, the Ministry of Economy and Industry presented a Bill on Representative Actions for the Protection of the Collective Interests of Consumers.
The draft legislation transposes Directive (EU) 2020/1828 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2020 on representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers and repealing Directive 2009/22/EC.
Margaritov called on the consumer organizations to cooperate at all stages until the bill's passage so that the provisions would be worded in the clearest and best possible terms.
The NGO representatives thanked Ninova and her team for having managed to draft the bill in such a short time and expressed admiration for their willingness and efforts.
The civil society representatives raised the issue of a joint initiative to be organized between them, the Ministry of Economy and Industry and the Commission for Consumer Protection to address the issue of "energy poor consumers".
