"In recent months, we witnessed that Bulgaria is now letting its voice be heard. We have made a significant contribution to the EU decisions," outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Assen Vassilev said here Tuesday in an address at the official opening of the summer edition of the Webit Impact Forum - an international forum for innovations and technologies. The event is taking place in Sofia Tech Park from June 28 to July 1.
In Vassilev's words, Bulgaria has become a catalyst for various processes within the EU, including facilitated procedures for admitting Ukrainian refugees in the EU, securing access to banking, social, and health services, and to the education system.
"We are witnessing a very active role of our country in forming and defining some of the key European legislative changes related to taxation and aimed at reducing the regulatory "burden" on businesses," he said.
According to Vassilev, the period was full both of unexpected challenges, and of steps, changes and innovations which were good for the economy. Bulgaria's goal to play a significant role in the EU and make it more modern, has been mentioned at the previous edition of the forum, he noted.
"We are witnessing development in fintech. We are also seeing the response to the war in Ukraine which intensified many processes, such as jointly negotiating and buying raw materials, which is a kind of Bulgarian breakthrough. So far, joint gas supplies are a fact, and, very soon, I expect unified European actions in terms of grain supply which is essential for tackling the upcoming crisis", Vassilev emphasized.
