"Most people have expectations and are focused mainly on the projects set out in the Recovery and Resilience Plan, and not on the reforms ahead of us. And if reforms related to transparency and legality do not happen, then the funds under the Plan will never reach this country. The Recovery and Resilience Plan first and foremost guarantees our commitment to these reforms," said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev during the sixth annual Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum (BBLF) - Ambassadors Meeting here on Thursday, the Finance Ministry reported.

The BBLF initiative aims to provide a platform for dialogue between institutions, the private sector and the diplomatic corps, which focuses on improving the conditions for investment, work and life in Bulgaria.

Among the main topics touched upon by Minister Vassilev were transparency, finances and prospects for development of both the country and the EU.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Vassilev, in financial terms, Bulgaria is very well positioned and stable. "If we look at the education, pension and health systems, we have a significant increase in financial support in recent months. I believe that this is extremely important for the country and businesses, because Bulgaria has the most pronounced inequality between rich and poor in the EU," said Minister Vassilev.

According to him, in the next five years we will face serious trials, which will be due to the war in Ukraine. Vassilev sees the way out of them in the common European response and the efforts to overcome the consequences of the war, related to the supply of raw materials and food.
