Bulgaria's gross external debt amounted to EUR 41,489.4 million (55.3% of GDP) at the end of April 2022, growing by 5.9% year-on-year, the Bulgarian National Bank reported Thursday.
At end-April 2022, short-term liabilities stood at nearly EUR 7,299.2 million (17.6% of the total debt, 9.7% of GDP), increasing by 17.3% from this time last year. Long-term liabilities totalled EUR 34,190.2 million (82.4% of the total debt, 45.5% of GDP), up by 3.7% year-on-year.
In April, gross external liabilities with remaining maturity over one year amounted to EUR 25,370.1 million (61.1%).
The gross external liabilities denominated in euro were 80.7%, compared with 84.5% at end-April 2021.
The general government's gross external debt totalled EUR 7,348.5 million (9.8% of GDP), down by 6.6% from end-April 2021.
The central bank's external liabilities stood at EUR 2,050.5 million (2.7% of GDP), growing by 149.2% year-on-year.
The stock of intercompany lending amounted to EUR 14,172 million (18.9% of GDP), increasing by 2.9% from end-April 2021. It accounted for the biggest share in external debt, 34.2%, compared with 35.2% at end-April 2021.
