In May 2022, the calendar adjusted turnover in retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles, increased by 5.0% compared to the same month of 2021, the National Statistical Institute reported here on Friday.
According to the preliminary seasonally adjusted data, in May 2022 the turnover in retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles at constant prices increased by 0.4% compared to the previous month.
Monthly changes
In May 2022, compared to the previous month, an increase in turnover was observed in the retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco - by 0.5%, while in the retail sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores and the retail sale of non-food products (except fuel), a decrease was registered by 1.4% and 1.0%, respectively. A drop in the retail sale of non-food products (except fuel) was observed in the retail sale of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods - 9.3% and in the retail sale of audio and video equipment; hardware, paints and glass; electrical household appliances - 2.9%. A more significant increase was registered in the retail sale via mail order houses or via the Internet - 7.3%.
Annual changes
In May 2022, compared to the same month of 2021, an increase in turnover was observed in all major groups: retail sale of non-food products (except fuel) and in retail sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores (7.2%), as well as in the retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco (0.7%). In the retail sale of non-food products (except fuel) category, an increase was registered in: retail sale via mail order houses or via the Internet - by 19.8%; retail sale of computers, peripheral units and software; telecommunications equipment - by 15.7%; retail sale in non-specialised stores - by 10.4%; retail sale of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods - by 6.6% and dispensing chemist, retail sale of medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles in specialised stores - by 5.3%. Turnover decreased in the retail sale of audio and video equipment; hardware, paints and glass; electrical household appliances - by 1.8%
