In January-May 2022, Bulgaria exported goods worth a total of BGN 37,067.2 million, which is by 38.8% more than in the like period of 2021, show preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute on Wednesday. Total imports amounted to BGN 41,702.5 million (at CIF prices), up by 42.3% from January-May 2021.
In May 2022 alone, Bulgaria exported BGN 8,280.6 million and imported BGN 9,021.5 million worth of goods, up by 60.7% and 49,3% respectively, from May 2021.
The foreign trade balance (export FOB - import CIF) was negative and stood at BGN 4,635.3 million in January-May 2022 and at BGN 740.9 million in May 2022.
In the first five months of 2022, Bulgaria's exports to third countries grew by 29.5% year-on-year to reach BGN 11,698 million. In May alone, exports went up year-on-year by 37.8% to BGN 2,473.3 million.
In January-May 2022, Bulgaria imported from third countries goods worth BGN 18,400.3 million (at CIF prices), or by 60.8% more than in the like period of 2021. In May alone, imports increased by 70.4% year-on-year to BGN 4,015.3 million.
The foreign trade balance (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was negative and stood at BGN 6,702.3 million in January-May 2022 and at BGN 1,542 million in May 2022.
In January-April 2022, Bulgarian exports to the EU increased by 36.7% year-on-year to BGN 19,561.9 million. In April alone, the exports amounted to BGN 5,358.1 million, growing by 36.1% compared to April 2021.
Imports from EU Member States totaled BGN 18,296 million (at CIF prices), up by 29.2% from January-April 2021. In April alone, they grew by 23.7% to reach BGN 4,454 million worth of goods.
The foreign trade balance (export FOB - import CIF) with the EU was positive at BGN 1,265.9 million in January-April 2022.
