The water level in Danube has receded and traffic in the Bulgarian stretch is impeded, said Ivan Zhekov, head of the River Supervision department with the Maritime Administration.
Traffic is hindered in the regions of Belene and Vardim islands.
The Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River has been dredging in the region of Belene for a week. Several days ago a Romanian barge ran aground, blocking traffic. The barge has already been freed and a section of the waterway has been diverted.
According to data of the Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River Agency the Danube level at Ruse has dropped to 50 cm above the absolute zero point. In the coming days it is expected to recede by another 15 cm.
