site.btaSofia Airport to Be Fitted with New Baggage Handling System

Sofia Airport has issued a call for expressions of interest for the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of a Baggage Handling System (BHS) at Terminal 2, the airport’s press office said. Systems for departing and arriving passengers are included.

Based on the latest European and national standards and providing a best-in-class passenger experience, the new system will enable a significant increase in capacity, security and efficiency in checked baggage handling.

The innovative system will facilitate the process. Online check-in is also planned, as well as additional baggage claim lanes in the arrivals area. Stakeholders are required to provide support for the system for a period of ten years, the airport said.

The baggage handling system is a key element of the transformation of Sofia Airport. The planned redevelopment includes more check-in desks, streamlined security checkpoints with increased capacity, completely new retail space, a complete revamp of the dining and entertainment areas, and a major overhaul of the car park next to Terminal 2.
