The Agriculture Ministry Monday banned mowing and mulching as a wild fire precaution between July 25 and August 7. According to information from the Executive Agency for Forests, cited by the Agriculture Ministry, 55 wildfires have been detected in Bulgaria so far in July. They have affected 458.6 ha of forests, 14.3 ha of grassland and unafforested woodland.
Hot and dry weather over the last few days has made the fire safety situation more complicated, pushing the fire risk up to extreme levels. Mowing has been identified as one of the main causes of wild fires.
Meteorologists forecast that high temperatures and drought will persist, which makes it necessary to minimize fire hazards. The Agriculture Ministry and the Executive Agency for Forests call on everyone to exercise caution and adhere to the fire safety rules while being in or close to forest areas.
