site.btaCamping and Caravaning Enjoys Growing Popularity among Bulgarian Vacationers

More and more Bulgarian holidaymakers have been opting for travel trailers during the summer season on the Black Sea coast, according to data of the Bulgarian platform for online booking of caravans in Bulgaria karavani.bg. Interest in renting has increased 3.5 times compared to last season.

“The number of bookings until July 15 already exceeds the number of bookings for the whole 2021,” said the founder of karavani.bg Nikolay Nekov. “We expect the trailers on the platform to be fully booked by the last week of September very soon, which will extend the season.”

As many as 37,000 people have searched for caravans on the website from the start of the year until July 15, up from just over 11,000 in the same period of 2021. At the same time, the number of caravans for rent is also growing - currently more than 100 caravans have joined the platform, making it the largest in the country, the company said.

This year the demand for caravans at Camp Gardenia has surpassed the previous leader in Karavani.bg, Camping Gradina. The most popular destinations for caravan holidays in Bulgaria are on the southern Black Sea coast - around Kiten and Lozenets (the campsites Gardenia, Yakoto Miasto, Kiten, Atliman), between Sozopol and Chernomorets (the campsites Gradina, Zlatna Ribka, Kite Gradina, Eco Gradina Offshore Camp, Chernomorets), as well as camping Delfin around Ahtopol.

Apart from the Black Sea coast, the camping and holiday village Istrum Park on the Iskar Reservoir is another popular destination.

Over half the demand for trailers this season comes from people aged between 25 and 44 from Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas and Stara Zagora. Planning a family holiday is mainly the concern of women, who are much more active in searching and choosing a home on the beach, according to the data of the bookings platform.

Many people this season are also renting caravans not only to rest, but also to work from the seaside for a couple of weeks.

The platform's data also shows that more and more people want to avoid busy resorts in the summer. European trends are similar, reporting resilience of camping tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic.
